Just like building a house, our communities need a strong and stable foundation. I believe we must focus on the essential issues at the local level—those that directly impact our families, neighborhoods, and small businesses.
By working together to get these fundamentals right, we create a solid base for long-term success. From there, we can take on bigger challenges with confidence and clarity. By focusing on our shared priorities, we can make meaningful progress and move our community forward together.
Priorities That Matter
Grow the local economy and support small businesses
Growing our local economy starts with supporting the small businesses and industries that define our district. Agriculture and tourism are the backbone of our region, providing jobs, driving revenue, and shaping our way of life. We must continue to invest in and strengthen these key sectors—but we also need to think ahead. How do we support these industries while creating new opportunities that help balance the natural ups and downs of seasonal and cyclical business? The answer lies in building a more resilient, locally driven economy.
We don’t need to rely on large, outside production facilities to succeed. Instead, we can foster growth right here at home by encouraging entrepreneurship, supporting locally owned businesses, and developing regional opportunities across the five counties that make up House 10A. By investing in our communities, promoting innovation, and keeping dollars circulating locally, we can reduce our dependence on large corporations and create a stronger, more stable economic future for everyone.
Preserve and protect rural healthcare
With federal funding being reduced or uncertain, rural healthcare in our region faces serious challenges. We must take proactive steps to protect and strengthen our local medical resources so they can withstand future disruptions. That means finding innovative ways to attract and retain doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who are essential to our communities. It also means exploring cost-effective solutions, such as sharing resources across facilities to achieve economies of scale for equipment and testing.
At the same time, we should think creatively about how care is delivered. Expanding mobile healthcare services—bringing clinics directly to smaller or more remote communities—can help ensure that everyone has access to quality care, especially those who face transportation barriers. By working together and embracing practical solutions, we can build a more resilient, accessible healthcare system that serves all residents.
Improve education and invest in our schools
Education opens doors and creates opportunities—whether a student chooses a four-year degree, a vocational path, or enters the workforce directly. Minnesota has consistently ranked among the top states in the nation for education, and we must remain committed to maintaining that high standard. To do that, we need to prioritize attracting and retaining quality teachers by offering competitive, livable wages and strong support systems.
At the same time, we must invest in our education infrastructure. Many of our school buildings are aging and in need of repair, while classrooms require updated technology to keep pace with a rapidly changing world. By planning ahead for maintenance, upgrades, and future growth, we can ensure our schools remain safe, modern, and effective learning environments. A strong education system is an investment in our future—and it’s one we must continue to protect and strengthen.
These issues form the foundation of community security. Of course, there are other issues that need to be addressed- election reform ( let’s get big money out of elections and return the power to the voters), work to eliminate fraud in any form ( update monitoring technology and {re}hire more auditors), and how to preserve our state’s natural resources, especially the BWCA, while still considering opportunities in mining.
I believe that we have the power and skills to work towards answers for these issues.
